Common People’s Protest amid Ruthless Hooliganism in the State is Critical: Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee
Amid many brutal incidents the protesting character of common people is a very important and positive element, said CPI(M) Polit Bureau member Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee. While attending foundation anniversary of Chhatra Sangram magazine Bhattacharjee in his speech said that what the villagers of Kamduni area have shown while refusing Government compensation proves that the ruling TMC led Government will not succeed in keeping everybody silent.
While giving Anil Biswas memorial speech commemorating 48th foundation day of Chhatra Sangram magazine Bhattacharjee said that ‘when democracy is choked the hooligans raise their heads, try to be the ruler. We are all concerned about almost daily incidents of molestation, rape, murder of women. Despite such incidents I will request you to turn your eyes to the positive aspects of social resistance.
He added that in Kamduni the family of the victim has not bowed down to money and compensation. The ruling TMC Government is always trying to suppress dissident voice by giving money in the name of compensation. They however proved that this is not the solution.
He congratulated SFI for holding rally to protest against Kamduni incident. He reiterated that amid miscreants’ rise the voice of protest might not be always perceptible, but the voice should be strengthened to alienate hooliganism. The democracy is very much affected in West Bengal. The miscreants are helping Government to exploit the common people. Education institutions and campuses are being brutally attacked; the rights of guardians and students have been snatched. We must restore our rights.
Comrade Sudipta Gupta has sacrificed his life in fighting against these odds. The death of Sudipta has seriously affected all of us. But this death has also put forward a big question ‘where this anti-democratic power ends’. He also added that ‘why Sudipta’s death will not be investigated?’ Why would it be unresolved?’ We must fight for appropriate investigation.
While talking on global economic situation Bhattacharjee said that ‘the world is witnessing hunger, poverty, unemployment because of unregulated International Finance Capital. European and American countries are already launching protests. But our country on the other hand is following the same neo-liberal economic policies. It is following American policies. The two decades of economic liberalization programme could not resolve the basic problems. What is then the alternative to the Congress Government? Is it BJP? BJP’s policy is ultra-hindutva. That can never be an alternative. This is why they are projecting the name of Narendra Modi as their new leader.
Like BJP led undemocratic alliance he denounced any possible opportunistic alliance among regional parties. Coming close together cannot frame an alternative alliance to Congress and BJP. States cannot make alliance; only common agenda and policies can make any alliance. They must formulate their foreign and domestic policies. People will not support any directionless alliance. This is so difficult job to accomplish in this country.
SFI State President Madhuja Sen Ray, Secretary Debajyoti Das and SFI All India General Secretary Ritabrata Banerjee also addressed the audience.
