'Dalatantra' is Only Happening Now in Education Sector
The last Assembly Election in the state of West Bengal took place in an unprecedented scenario. The 'rainbow alliance' of all anti-left forces backed by mainstream media popularized the slogan of 'change' in direct support of anti-left alliance. Media organized hate campaign against Left Front, especially CPI(M) to earn dividend in the election. Such a campaign was organized in the name of 'Dalatantra' (party rule) in each stratum of the society. They mainly focus on the so-called party rule in education sector to defame CPI(M). The word 'Dalatantra', therefore, is another media created myth, which does not have any connection with reality. Left Front Government did not have any agenda but to legitimize the demands of the democratic movement. They ensured the participation of the different communities of the education sector in the decision making body by changing the nominative bodies into elected bodies. The Universities and Colleges were well accredited by Central agencies. Still the media shouted the slogan of 'Dalatantra' to meet up their political goal.
On the contrary, the boasting of party rule is now becoming prevalent in every step the TMC-led Government is initiating. Every committee constituted in this brief period unquestionably speaks of 'Dalatantra'. But these stories are getting neither the media attention nor the interpretation. The reason is obvious. Let's look into such partisan steps of the new Government:
The Governor, with his capacity of Chancellor, wrote a letter to all the Universities not to take any policy decision and
not to do anything beyond routine work. The dateline of the letter read as 15th June. The direction of the Governor
was in anticipation of policy change by the newly constituted committee in the education sector.
The Court meeting of Rabindra Bharati University was unprecedentedly stopped in the middle due to a
communication from the Chancellor's office. The meeting was scheduled on 15th June with prior permission of the
Chancellor.
The TMC-led Government asked the Government nominees in Governing Bodies of Government Aided Colleges to
step down. The declaration was made on 26th May. In most of the cases the Governing Bodies were newly constituted.
Still the Government's decision indicates to their intention to infiltrate people of their fold into those bodies.
The result of Higher Secondary Examination was leaked in Star Ananda television channel well before the official
press conference. The incident happened on 4th June. Chief Minister not only defended the incident but openly said
in the Writer's Building that she would compensate the loss of other channels by giving some scoops. This unethical
and illegal thing was only designed to favor the channel that has almost become spokesperson of TMC.
The elected Chairmen of District Primary Education Councils were advised (?) by the School Education Minister to
resign. The incident happened on 3rd June. The intention was nothing but to capture the Councils autocratically.
The leaders of TMC in all the districts of the state are capturing the Governing Bodies of different Colleges. The list will
be quite long. Even Anandabazar Patrika, despite of their anti-Left editorial stand, highlighted these incidents on
their edition of 18th August (http://www.anandabazar.in/archive/1110818/18raj1.html).
The newly appointed Chairmen of different Government bodies in the Education sector have prominent TMC
connection. The Chairman of School Service Commission Prof. Chitta Mondal is the convener of TMC's education cell.
The Chairperson of West Bengal Board of Secondary Education Prof. Chaitali Dutta was a prominent figure in the
Singur movement led by Mamata Banerjee. Dr. Manik Bhattacharyya, Chairman of West Bengal Council for Primary
Education was a TMC nominated candidate in the last Assembly Election.
In 69 colleges of the state elected students' Union were forcibly captured by the TMC-backed goons from SFI. |
